Favorite Unit

I say it about three times a year, This is my FAVORITE Unit to teach Smile (The other two times are Apples and Life Cycles) If you want to see what I did last year you can check out my post here.

So anyway, last year, I had to do some double duty, and was still using Valentine’s Day stuff, because I didn’t have any President’s Day Centers. So I fixed that, and put together this unit.
Slide1

The centers for this week are pretty fun.
The first set, is Presidential Pet’s Ten Frames. The students draw a card, figure out what the number is, and write it in the box. The fun part of this center, is it features Bo and Sunny, the Obama’s dogs.

The next one is Cherry Tree “ch” words. The students have to decide if the cherry word has a beginning or ending “ch” sound.

Still working on Subtraction fluency? This center has the kiddos writing subtraction problems and having fun at the same time!

This center can either work on the 3rd Dolch list, or whatever list you want your kiddos to work on, as there are blank cards. I have this as a write the room activity. The students walk around the room, and read and write the sight words.

Then we also have some fun games to play this week.
You know my kids go Cucku for Coco Puffs for these game! So we have one that works on sight words, one for teen numbers and the thirds for ccvc and cvcc words.

Mrs. Hoffer LOVES TpT

I have a happy heart today! I am joining up with my Freebielicious girls and we are talking about how much we LOVE TpT!  Obviously I love TeachersPayTeachers because of all the AMAZING resources I find there. I am a better teacher because of the perfect goodies. I also am a more reflective teacher, because I have items on TPT as well. It makes me really take a hard look at what I am teaching and why. But the real reason…

Is because of these ladies!
Slide2
I love TeachersPayTeachers because it has given me all these new friends. Can you name all these ladies? Teachers who are passionate about what they do! My husband asks me about my friends, and I start talking about these ladies. He has to ask me “No, Kaci, Your “real-life” friends.” I was blessed to be able to go to Vegas last summer and finally meet them face to face. I can not wait to go back this year too!

Slide3
Another reason I love TeachersPayTeachers is it has opened doors that I wouldn’t have dreamed would open so soon in my teaching career! I have presented 3 times because they found me through TpT. What a blessing it is, to not only help my students, but help students around the world.

How to Keep Kinders Organized

Hi Guys!! If you are coming over from Kerri’s blog, WELCOME!!
I have got to tell you, the one thing about being a Kindergarten teacher that KILLS me is how needy they are. “Mrs. Hoffer, I need glue!” “What puzzle are we supposed to do?” I learned very quickly how to help them be self-sufficient. All I had to do was train them! So today I am doing the:
 BrightIdeasButton1
My bright idea is how I keep my classroom organized to help my kiddos be Self-Sufficient! I have 3 tips for you!

1) My first tip is my games. During FreeChoice and Literacy Station time, my kids play puzzles. I keep them in one spot. Here are my “Station” puzzles, and I have another shelf of “Free Choice” puzzle. (I didn't add a picture of that because it is a MESS!) This way I don’t have to answer questions of “Mrs. Hoffer can I play XYZ?” They already know that puzzle XYZ is in the Free Choice center shelf, not the Station shelf.
Slide2

2) Tip number 2. How often do you hear “Teacher, I need glue!!!”  My solution is they now have a shelf. This shelf has everything they will never need to have. It only took me a few times of me telling them “Be a problem solver, where might you find the tools you need?” Now they don’t even ask me! They just go get whatever it is they need!

3) My final tip today is where to store their paper. These kids require a lot of paper. I tent to have stacks 3 foot tall in random places around my room. I invested in one of these bad boys. And now my stacks have been reduced to only one stack about a half foot tall (and that is just papers that I haven’t filled away!) They know where their mailbox is, and I hand them their paper and they go put it away for me :)

Thanks for visiting! I hope you enjoy the rest of the hop! Go see Mrs. Poultney. She is talking about how how to differentiate math games with Dice and Cards!

Hop On!!
