A fun idea!

Before I tell you about my idea, I just have to share this ecard! Can I get an amen?! I am dead beat!
there-is-no-tired-like-end-of-year-teacher-tired--0d34a'

I saw the CUTEST pin the other day on Pinterest. It was actually not a teacher related pin, but I felt like I could adapt it to the classroom.
d8ab804d40886fe54e955c641111f762
So I went to Walmart and bought some stuff to get to work. Red, Blue and Clear spray paint, and Magnetic Letters were what I bought. (I had the poster board already)
Slide7

I started out by spreading the letters out and priming them.
Slide4

I did a couple of layers of primer, then I had to post a question on Facebook asking if vowels are red or blue. (Because I had a major brain fart Smile )
Slide3

Then (Since I was doing this outside at 10pm) our motion sensor light went out, I grabbed the closest thing I could, and threw it in front of the sensor. Weeellllllp…...
Slide6

I threw it on the roof. Thanks Hubs for getting it down Smile

After I was done spray painting and sealing it. I moved the letters, and TADA! I have the correct colored letters AND a poster board that I am going to laminate and we will have a puzzle that my kiddos can match letters to during the fall.

A year later…

I remember the grief I felt a year ago, as I heard about two elementary schools getting hit in Moore, OK. I know many people who live in Moore and surrounding areas. Including family members who had to leave their babies in the hands of their teachers.

I pray that I never will be in the same situation as those teachers, but I know in my heart, that I would do everything I could to protect my own babies, as if they were my own. It never gets easier to live in Oklahoma, tornadoes, earthquakes, ice storms, and blizzards. But together we are Oklahoma Strong!

Wild about Weather

Hiya Friends! I am going to be super busy this week because it is FINALS week! Ugh. I hated Finals when I was in College, and it is even worse when I also have to prepare 22 five year olds for the end of school (that means keeping the chaos to a minimum) So since I will probably be scarce, which shouldn’t shock you with my recent blogging habits, I thought I would share about my weather centers that I am doing next week.

Being from Oklahoma, it is not uncommon for us to have 2 season changes in one day, that happens almost weekly, and it has been known to hit all 4 seasons in one day. As a matter of fact, as we were having outdoor recess today, we remembered that last year on May 4th it was SNOWING, today is was a nice 95 degrees. Welcome to Oklahoma! Anywho, we like to talk about weather in these parts, especially during this time of the year, we start to spot Tornadoes. Last Sunday there was a tornado two towns over. And remember the tornado in Joplin, MO, my babes were terrified the next day since we live right over from there. So, weather is not just a standard we teach, but it is a life lesson on how to live in our state.

I know that money isnt a standard in Common Core, but at the end of the year, we have a little bit of extra time. This is a fun center the kids can relate to! They love to splash in puddles after it rains.

We always need a little more help on identifying medial vowels. This probably wont be a center this week, but I will give it to one of our aides to work with some of my lovies who just arent quite getting it yet.

My class is really struggling with blends this year, so I made some storming blends. They can segment words out like champs, but the blends are really hard this year, so a little extra help won’t hurt.

Twister Ending Digraphs are a fun way to to reinforce not only digraphs but the ending sounds some of my lovies are struggling with.

Subtraction, subtraction, subtraction. Gotta keep on pushing it.

I think with all of the ten frames and place value centers my kids have been working with are paying off. So a little more practice will help those few who are still switching the ones and tens place.

And clocks. I know again, they are not in the Common Core, but my kids are dying to learn how to read a clock, so this center they are practicing to the hour.

Zoo Dump

We are going to title this post, Zoo Dump, because I am going to “dump” a bunch of zoo centers at ya! But first a little update on our insects from last week!

If you read my blog last week, you know that we focused on Ladybugs, Praying Mantis and Butterflies.

Of course I didn’t get a picture of the butterflies! But here is our Ladybug and Praying Mantis projects!

This week (Monday) I am finishing up my insect unit, so we are looking at bees. Slide1Slide1
I will be using this mini unit to teach about the lifecycle and my labeling will come from this pack, along with my centers. (If you want to see these centers check out last weeks post here)

But then on Tuesday the real fun starts, We have three weeks left, and I am wondering if I am going to be able to fit it all in! So we are going to start our study on Animals.
Slide1Slide2Slide3Slide4Slide5Slide6Slide7Slide8Slide9
Obviously I am not going to get all of them up and running at one time, so mid week I will change them out.

Then we have these two games we will be playing during transition.

Next week my kids and I will be focusing on Weather. We were supposed to do it this week, but with the tornadoes that hit around here recently, I decided to put it off another week!
