#elfintheclassroom

I know, I know. I am SO far behind it isn’t even funny! This getting my Masters, Teaching, TpT, Blogging is dragging me down. I promise I have my act together for my daily school.

I am linking up with Mel D and Michelle for Elf in the Classroom!

We are a little behind. We started on Wednesday, and Thursday someone touched our elf. Then SNOW DAY on Friday.

This is what happened on Thursday. My kids were LIVID with Snowflake. “What am I going to tell my parents?”  “She is breaking the clipchart!” She moved all the clips to red! And they stayed there all day!

Then the unthinkable happened. One of my friends touched her. Oh-my-lanta. He was almost in tears! But I bet he won’t ever think about touching her again!

On Friday, we were out of school, but they were going to find this. One of our other teachers Elf took Snowflake to the North Pole. I “caught’ him leaving us some magic dust.

Monday they are going to find a note from Santa, a still missing elf, and a picture of our Snowflake on the mend.

Have a great weekend!

Data Wall

Hi friends! It has been a while, don’t hate Smile I promise once school is out and my Masters is done, I will be around more!

1466092_719028464792794_740219207_n

Anywho, I posted this my Instagram and Facebook today, and got a huge response to please post about how I am doing my data wall.
The state of Oklahoma said we have a new evaluation system, we went with Marzano, and he is big big big on having students track their own data. So the beginning of the year I posted this pic.

970245_628843297144645_945962011_n

And for about 13 weeks it has just looked like this.  We are supposed to post their “zip code numbers”. I don’t know about you, but I was so afraid to try this with kindergarteners. I am sure it works, but I was afraid to try it. I wanted to try something a little more child-friendly. So we are going to try it this way….

1462920_719161048112869_824870531_n

This is what my board looked like today. Do you see any numbers? Noooooo. I came up with this idea on the fly today. All my kiddos have a “picture” image. It is in their cubby, to try to have them quickly learn. Now they do not have just random pictures. So Kaci for example would have a Kite, and Dustin would be a dog. There are 22 different pictures for 22 kiddos.
We are charting Phoneme Segmentation, Letter Naming, First Sound and Nonsense Words. We use DIBELS. I “progress monitored” my kids the last few days, to see where they are for the MOY assessment in December.

Welp, I am off to bed! Have a great evening!

November 11th

Getting ready for the week. I am working feverishly on my homework this week, so I didn’t get my picture done. But I did have a chance to snap a few pictures of my centers for this week! So I am going to link up with Deedee at
DeedeeWillsButton2
So our centers for this week are:
Pilgrim Tally Marks, students identify the numbers on the girls apron and write the number in the circle.

They have to identify the word on the turkey and stretch it out and write it in the boxes.
My kids are ROCKING at CVC words right now! They have to identify the word on the turkey and stretch it out and write it in the boxes.

Dessert Sounds, my kids have to identify the picture and write a sound (beginning or end sound depending on your students ability)

This one is a little different than my other centers, the students have to identify if the corn or pumpkins have more, then write the number in the circle.

Batty Ten Frames. We are struggling with ten frames still. So they have to draw a bat and fill in the ten frame with the matching number.

Center Rotations

I have had a lot of people ask me recently how I run my center rotations. So I figured I would share :)

title

This is what my rotations look like. You see me, a sensory table, Tub A, iPad, Tub 1, Me, Tub B, Library, Tub 2, Writing Center.
rotation

This is what my 1st little group does. So you can see that they do 4 rotations a day for about 15 minutes. All groups will see me four out of five days a week. I am built into the rotation so I don’t have to pull groups, it is automatic that they see me! I have 5 small groups. My Sweet n' Lows(1), Lows(2), Med Low(3), Med High(4), and High(5). Then I break them into two groups to do centers.

This is what my kiddos see.

(Please keep in mind this is a picture from last year, so the cards are different as are the stations)

The center cards go up, so the top group will go to computers the next rotation.

The tubs are very easy to manage.  On Friday afternoon I change out the tubs. There are two math and two reading tubs.

Here is a picture from February. I sit down and put the pieces and response sheets in their actual tubs.

Now here comes the exciting new part!!

Are you listening…

Dry erase pockets!!!
center

I am really trying to cut down on paper in my room, and I noticed that I was going a whole week without checking papers, and it took me a good million years to do so.

So we are going to try something new this week! This is going to be WAY easier for me!

1) I can easily check for correct answers
2) Less papers for me to manage
3) INSTANT feedback with the kids
4) They will do their best to get a punch on their Star Punch Card! (Deedee Wills talks about it here)
5) THEY JUST ERASE WHEN THEY ARE FINISHED!

I hope that cleared some things up! I will be around tomorrow for a Peek at my Week: Spiders and Bats!

Fun with Lakeshore

I am LOVING my fall break! I have slept in everyday and lounged around watching tv and playing on my laptop. Then I remembered that I had a review to post!

Some of you have seen these pics on Instagram or Facebook! (If not you should TOTALLY follow me on there so you can see things two months before I post about it on my blog Winking smile )

Lakeshore sent me these goodies!

ll237_fll239_fll238_f

Let me just tell you how much I LOVE these bad boys!

IMG_2918.JPG (2)

I got this little cutie to play the alphabet magnetic tin with me. The kids flip over the top of the tin and put one of the mats in and they have to match the beginning sounds or their matching letters. There are 15 activity mats in the Alphabet set. So easy for the beginning of the year.

IMG_2906.JPG (2)

Then there is the phonemic awareness tin. This one has rhyming and beginning sounds. There are 15 cards in this set as well. Look at how easy it is to store the magnets and cards. They stay all together in one easy tin.

IMG_2910.JPG (2)

Look at how much fun these are! There are easy to understand images on the top of the card so the students can figure out what to do with out having to ask an adult.  The third set they sent me, (We didn’t get a picture because we needed to work on phonemic awareness and letters) is a Word Building Tin. It also has 15 mats, but it has students build CVC words, with missing initial, medial and ending sounds.

This is such an easy center for your kiddos to have. Once they know how to use one set, they can use them all!

Well I am laminating and cutting out centers for the next week. Have a great evening!

apples galore

Monday starts my favorite week of the year! Apples are coming in! I am going to share what my plans look like, and what my actual centers are doing.

I am linking up with Mrs. Wills, and she hasn’t even posted the link up yet Smile

Peek at my Week Linky Button

Okay, my plans:
Slide2Slide1
A bunch of the same things this week. My core curriculum is the same, and we are switching out our centers to my Apple Unit.

Working on beginning sounds, students will identify the picture and the beginning sound, then write it on their response sheet.

This center students will match the Uppercase Apples and Lowercase Pies. Then find the correct box, and write the lowercase in the box.

Look at those cute apples with seeds, students will draw a card, count the seeds and write it on their recording sheets.

I take 3 apples, cut one up, peel on and leave one whole. Everyday we measure them in a balance with unifix cubes and record the weight.
I have gotten a lot of questions about this on my FB page. I take 3 apples, cut one up, peel on and leave one whole. Everyday we measure them in a balance with unifix cubes and record the weight. Such an awesome activity to do! The kids LOVE it!

How about a little freebie for this nice Sunday afternoon! A flow map of the life cycle of an apple! Click the picture to head over to TpT to download this freebie!!

I am going to try to post tomorrow on some goodies I received from Lakeshore!
